Having dug here for the last 12 years with the machines, I joined Dave Scrivens once again for a last crack at the tip.
Having recovered in excess of 700+ lids, 5 coloured codds, countless London blue top creams and other rarities it was always worth another dig.
We booked up our normal residence and moved in for 3 days but it was tough going throughout some of the hottest days of the year so far! Although fresh ash was hard to locate, when we did find some we were soon turning bottles out of the ground. Overall, we ended up with plenty of bulk (we left behind many ginger beers and apollinaris’ as nobody wanted them) and had a selection of finds to share out including 2 London creams, 25 various pot lids (Bateys bears grease was the best of the bunch), 2 large 20oz N.T.B.T poisons, 2 mini black glass Roses, a couple of strikers and lots of printed stoneware. My favourite find over the years from Woolmer was the amber coloured marble hybrid that created such a laugh when Paul Searle auctioned it onsite amongst ourselves!
